Hey, I'm slipstreaming SP2 into WindowsXP, but I'm having some problems....everything goes well, until....i test my disc..... it locks up in my computers...I tried burning 3 discs..... same problem....I tried burning it with another program, just to see if it's the files, and it worked fine, but that program doesn't allow bootable disc burning (well, it does, but I can't set the sector size to 4 or emulation to No emulation.....so it won't boot anyways).

Anyways, I don't see what I'm doing wrong. I followed these websites (picking up info from all three...they all got a few different nuggets of knowledge on the issue):

http://www.tomshardware.com/howto/20040908/index.html
http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/windowsxp_sp2_slipstream.asp
http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=1626

I really don't see what the problem is. I burned the disc at 8x and 12x (the two lowest speeds that my burner supports) and it doesn't work. I put the disc in and it just freezes the PC until i eject it.....and if I try to boot it, it starts to boot, but then just keeps spinning it wheels to no avail.

Anyone else run into this problem? I'm considering just starting the whole process all over just to make sure that I didn't do nothing wrong.

Weird. I slipstreamed XP and SP2 with Paul Thurrott's guide(on the win supersite) and I did just fine. Although, those burn speeds are a bit high. Are you sure 8X is the lowest speed your drive will burn? 8x is where data corruption starts because of burning too fast. Nero should let you burn at 4x. Try that.

Like i said, it has something to do with (I think) the boot thingy. I use the Nero 6.6.0.5 trial from AfterDawn.com....could that be it????

Yes, I know it does, and I did. And I read it again..and again, and again. I'm doing it right. But it's just not working. *sigh* :(

My original copy of windowsXP is like a FIRST FIRST edition.....could that be it? Maybe it has trouble slipstreaming.... :(

And it was so.

Problem not solved. Sorry. :(

I'm prolly just gonna try the whole process all over from the beginning and see if it works.

I'll post back here later if it doesn't. And I fit does, I'll post anyways. :D

In the mean time, could it be my dinosaur copy of XP Home?

Wait, hold everything! I think I got it....maybe...

The version of SP2 that I used to slipstream was from the CD that I had microsoft send me. It's an exe.... Now, the file size is IDENTICAL to the Network download version that you can get from microsoft.com, excpect it's for 1KB smaller.

could that be my issue? I think it's HIGHLY unlikely.....but if anyone knows if that's the problem, speak up. :D

OR if anyone has had success slipstreaming with the CD from microsoft (the SP2 CD), speak up, that way I know that that's not my issue. lol.

That website said that you can use an upgrade version of XP. I have a copy of WindowsXP Pro that NO ONE in my house is using........ but it's an upgrade version. Is it possible to reformat with just the upgrade edition and no previous version of windows?

As long as you have the XP home disc, I think so.

Yah, if you read on this site:

http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/windowsxp_sp2_slipstream.asp

He says that the SP2 CD is the same file as the network download version. You just need to go on the CD and use the file called "XPSP2.exe" as your service pack file. It works great. :D
Yep, it certainly did, but at the fourth try!

Slipstreaming WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe went very easily, but trying to slipstream direct from the SP2 CD and XPSP2.exe wouldn't go past seven increments on AutoStreamer's progress bar.

I had to copy the files from the SP2 CD to an SP2 folder and then point to XPSP2.exe in the folder. Sure enough, it slipstreamed perfectly in 25 minutes and produced a 641,496Kk .ISO file from which to burn the new XPSP2 CD.

Perfect!

Many thanks. :)
