I'm having trouble running "The Sims Deluxe Edition" on my computer. I've looked through other posts on this (great)forum but couldn't find a solution for my problem.
I use a PII-400 with a diamond viper550 card and win98SE
The game runs smoothly (in 800x600 16-bit). Unfortunately the game always crashed after a while (within 1 hour) to the desktop. I found this on another site : http://thesims.ea.com/us/index.html?content=./support/index.html None of the suggestions seemed to work however.
Then I decided to update my driver. I was using the diamond viper driver version 4.12.01.0368 which is an older driver I believe. Searching for the latest driver I found : http://www.driverheaven.net/downloads/index3.htm and downloaded detonator driver 44.03 for windows98. After installation the game still crashed after a while but now instead of dropping to the desktop the screen freezes (while still being able to move the mouse and hear the sound). The intro movie now plays less smoothly than while using my older driver. Because of the change in crashing I think my problem is driver related.
Did I install the right driver?
