My wife just bought me a laptop so that i can surf the internet while i'm in the kitchen talking to her. Were both not very good with computers but i think we managed to hook everything up right with our router. My internet still works on my desktop and my laptop connects aswell. the little computer icon says signal strength very good. The other little computer icon has an X over it. If i move the cursor over it, it says local area connection, a network cable is unplugged. Is this normal?? I know how to disable it. should i??

That message is normal if your ethernet connection is enabled but is not connected to something. On my laptop I keep that connection disabled since I seldom use the ethernet. The trick then is to remember to enable it soon after connecting via wire. :)
