os is ME, it started when i was trying to set a program to start with a short key. I was told to right click on the shortcut then properties and set the shortcut to a # on the keypad. At that piont it seemed to work ok but when i tried it it asked open with so i set it to that program. this didn't work and after a friend got done with it now all my shortcuts have an "e" (ie) on them and when you click to open them the "you have choosen to download a file from location.....".window pops up. This is with all my shortcuts programs etc....They all end with .Lnk Also when you right click to make a new shortcut it makes one with the .LNk I have tried all I know including system restore but even that does not work. I get restoration unsuccessful. Could this be fixwd by a backed up reg file? any help please.........................

Hi,

Scanreg /restore in MS-DOS will probably fix this.

Choose a backup from just before you tried this, and restore it.

Good luck!
TonyKlein, Thanks for the quick response and for confirming the use of scanreg. It worked great!!!!!!!!! love this site always nice people and good advice.:D
