i have some icons that are set next to my start and for some reason, they are not working anymore. When i click them it says, for example the internet explorer, abox comes up with launch internet explorer browser properties. Does anyone know how i can get those icons back functioning...i am running windows 98 se...thanks..antoniette

That bar is called the "quick launch" bar.

For IE, delete the icon out of the quick launch (q/l) bar and drag the icon for IE down from the desktop and into the q/l bar.
