It's even more bad because he's trying to use God as a reason to justify this.

I can understand his logic. Small child = easier to move = less effort. -> Bottom line = Lazy.

Either way, I feel more sorry for the child.

Mmmm likewise Mar. There's a need to ponder on this one
Hi Bill: On one hand I understand....thinking on the side of the care-giver and the lightened load...on the other hand I ponder if the surgeries she had were just to lighten the load on the care-giver...and how dare they put that little girl through all that...:(

Mixed feelings and emotions for me. Do read her families site-at leaste the first couple paragraphs (I couldn't read the whole thing.)
Its time to go stare at my healthy kids and grandkids and thank God I wasn't faced with any such decisions.

they call her there little "pillow angel"

CHICAGO (AP) - In a case fraught with ethical questions, the parents of a severely mentally and physically disabled child have stunted her growth to keep their little "pillow angel" a manageable and more portable size.

The bedridden 9-year-old girl had her uterus and breast tissue removed at a Seattle hospital and received large doses of hormones to halt her growth. She is now 4-foot-5; her parents say she would otherwise probably reach a normal 5-foot-6.

Tend to agree with your sentiments on this one, after thinking long and hard. It's another one of those no win situations for those involved. Too easy for outsiders to take a moral stance when we are not directly affected.

Oldie :)

PS .. Mar .. thanks for enlightening link.

And in the end when one really thinks long and hard what real difference will it make for the young gal?

There is no ethics debate over whether it should have been done. So many parents of disabled children like her have the same fears, and if all this will make Ashley more comfortable and make it easier for her parents to give her the happy life she deserves, I say it was fine.

It's a matter between the doctor and the family. The rest of America should stay out of it.

It's already a suffering for parents to have a disabled child and it's another pain to held them accountable in front of the public opinion for the difficult decisions they have to take.
