Ok,

I am confused about something. If I want all the child folders in a specific windows xp pro directory to be shared, isn't the process to change the permissions and security settings via a right click for the parent?

I am finding that the child folders are NOT changing any of their permissions and I am having to go from folder to folder and change the 'sharing and security' settings.

Is there any easier way? What am I missing?

Thanks

Let me see if I have this right. are you clicking on the checkbox like it shows in the picture? Where it says: make this folder and all its subfolder private so that only you can see it and it still won't work?

Ok, I re-clicked the simple file sharing and I now see the same screen as you BUT that box you want me to click is all greyed out.....

With SFS Windows prevents sharing several folders, including Program Files.

SFS is sufficient for most home network use. If there is an occasional need to copy "forbidden" system folders across the network, temporarily copy the needed material into the Shared Documents Folder (or another shared folder).

If, getting back to your original post, you need the versatililty of XP Pro's advanced file sharing, I cannot be of help because I have never had the need or desire to learn it.
