I have 3 dell computers all desktop on Win XP and 2 Mac's 1 Laptop on OS 7 and 1 desktop on OS 9 (will be upgrading to OS10x) what I want to do is a hardwired network , but am unsure if this needs to be done through an Airport (MAC) or can I use a Linksys system also do we need wireless cards (these computers are all for home use and school work) please help

Well, if you have an ethernet connection that you can use at school, there is no need for wireless.

I can't speak for OS7 but you should be able to connect the Macs to the existing network, as long as you have AppleTalk installed on your PCs (to be able to talk to OS7) you should be good to go. OS X uses TCP/IP, which is the common network protocol. you may need to install protocols on the OS 7 to be able to talk to the other machines.

Just be sure to allow the network connection to be configured to allow internal traffic on the third party firewalls, whihc are most certainly there.
