I am in dire need of some help. My Norton Antivirus is down and states I have to reinstall in, but I am in the process of unpacking from a move and cannot locate my discs. Spybot says I have a bunch of viruses they can not deal with. NoAdware says I have some statblaster.Allfiles 7 or something, and microtrends housecall says I have 17 instances of java bytever.a1 and java bytever.a along with some Winshow.a or something. As of last-night ever time I start my internet explorer it logs on to about:blank and a pop-up from http://vv3.sl3.tempx.cc pops up saying my computer has been hijacked and they can help. I also am having problems with my media player (again). I have included a hijackthis scan. Please somebody help me.

Go here and do an online scan then Get AVG 7 antivirus program Install it . Use it until you find your Norton disks . Turn Norton anti virus off for now or remove /uninstall it as it will conflict with AVG 7

Then download Ad-Aware SE and Spybot Search and Destroy UPDATE them both and do a scan getting rid of all they find

Do a scan with Housecall and Panda

After doing ALL th eabove post another log here please

I had the same problem with XP SP2. The solution was to go into IE, and on the tools menu select Manage Add-Ons and look for a suspicious dll there in the File column. I found mmnb.dll there with no publisher information. I disabled it, searched for and renamed the file, then rebooted. Problem solved. the dll file name might be different on your system. Good luck!

I've also had the same problem with this vv1 and vv3 hijacker. However, I can't attempt to try the solution mentioned above (IE-tools-Manage Ad ons) because once I open Explorer, my page is hijacked and Explorer opens a new window every 5 seconds causing it to crash. Help!!! Any suggestions???

Go to Settings > Control Panel and open the Java
Plug-in Applet and click on the "Cache" tab then
click the "Clear" tab. This will clear the Cache
and the infected files should be deleted. Run another
virus scan to be sure.

Also take a look at this site about your noadware. You should dump it.
Download and unzip or install these programs/applications if you haven't already got them. If you have them, then make sure they are updated and configured as described

Spybot - Search & Destroy from http://security.kolla.de
Download Adaware SE http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/

Run CWSHREDDER,

Close all browser windows, click on the cwshredder.exe then click "FIX" (Not "Scan only") and let it do it's thing.
and make sure you have all of Microsoft security updates

Run Sybot S&D

After installing, first press Online, press search for updates, then tick the updates it finds, then press download updates. Beside the download button is a little down pointed arrow, select one of the servers listed. If it doesn't work or you get an error message then try a different server

Next, close all Internet Explorer and OE windows, press 'Check for Problems', and have SpyBot remove all it finds that is marked in RED.

then reboot &

Run ADAWARE

Install the program and launch it.

First in the main window look in the bottom right corner and click on Check for updates now then click Connect and download the latest reference files.

From main window :Click Start then under Select a scan Mode tick Perform full system scan.

Next deselect Search for negligible risk entries.

Now to scan just click the Next button.

When the scan is finished mark everything for removal and get rid of it.(Right-click the window and choose select all from the drop down menu and click Next)

Restart your computer.

Hello jecemn76! :D

Download DelDomains from here:
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/DelDomains.inf

Right-Click and select "Install".

Download SpywareBlaster from here:
http://www.majorgeeks.com/downloadget.php?id=2859&file=11&evp=61b0e8ad41924a03c37615f4682b4cef

Install and run SpywareBlaster. Click on "Updates" and then choose "Check for updates". Next choose "Protection" and at the top you will see different tabs which are Internet Explorer, Restricted sites and Mozilla/Firefox. Choose one of them at a time and at the bottom click "Protect Against Checked Items" (make sure that all of the items are checked). Tick the boxes above the items. Make sure you do this for all of the top tabs. Mozilla/Firefox you only need to do if you have the user profiles on your computer. You may now exit out of SpywareBlaster.

Restart your computer and post a fresh HijackThis log back on this thread.

Jecemn76: I had the same problem with win2k SP4 on a pc at work. After many hours of trying to find the problem I decided to approach it like this.
I did a search on C: for *.dll then sorted them by date. I checked all dlls since around the date the popup problem started.
I could only find one suspect dll called mli.dll after searching the registry for mli.dll
I found a few occurances one of which was an uninstall string for "search assistant".
So I checked "Add Remove programs" in the control panel and found an item called "Search Assistant" after uninstalling this the problem dissapeared.
