At work I was using a laptop with a serial port, which I used to communicate with an electronic device. The application used for the communication between the laptop and the device is designed to use a serial port.
The problem is I have now got a new laptop without a serial port (this seems to be the thing now!?) and I'm trying to use the USB port instead. My laptop doesn't like this at all!
Is there any way to configure the laptop to make the application think that it is talking to a serial port when it is in fact connected to the USB?
Any pointers anyone?
Cheers

I've got a USB/serial port converter (same as adapter?). So the lead is physically conntected to the USB. It's just that the application doesn't seem to recognise it as a serial device.
