Download and unzip or install these programs/applications if you haven't already got them. If you have them, then make sure they are updated and configured as described

Spybot - Search & Destroy from http://security.kolla.de
AdAware 6 from http://www.lavasoft.de/support/download

Run Sybot S&D

After installing, first press Online, press search for updates, then tick the updates it finds, then press download updates. Beside the download button is a little down pointed arrow, select one of the servers listed. If it doesn't work or you get an error message then try a different server

Next, close all Internet Explorer and OE windows, press 'Check for Problems', and have SpyBot remove all it finds that is marked in RED.

then reboot &

Run ADAWARE

Before you scan with AdAware, check for updates of the reference file by using the "webupdate".
the current ref file should read at least 01R274 23.03.2004 or a higher number/later date

Then ........

Make sure the following settings are made and on -------"ON=GREEN"
From main window :Click "Start" then " Activate in-depth scan"

then......

click "Use custom scanning options>Customize" and have these options on: "Scan within archives" ,"Scan active processes","Scan registry", "Deep scan registry" ,"Scan my IE Favorites for banned URL" and "Scan my host-files"

then.........

go to settings(the gear on top of AdAware)>Tweak>Scanning engine and tick "Unload recognized processes during scanning" ...........then........"Cleaning engine" and "Let windows remove files in use at next reboot"

then...... click "proceed" to save your settings.

Now to scan it´s just to click the "Scan" button.

When scan is finished, mark everything for removal and get rid of it. (Right-click the window and choose"select all" from the drop down menu) then press next and then say yes to the prompt, do you want to remove all these entries.

reboot again

then post a new hijackthis log to check what is left

Have to agree with Derek ...

C:\WINDOWS\system32\syshost.exe is planted by the FRANCETTE worm ...

This may be an orphaned entry, but before we do anything else, let's get a second and third opinion ...

Run a remote on-line anti-virus scan from these two sites:

HouseCall http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
Panda http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/

Kill anything they find.

I ran both the online virus checkers but neither found anything. Also now the search.exe bar across the bottom has made a reappearance.. thought i got rid of that.

Anything else you can suggest? Appreciate the help. Search.exe just wont go away :(

This one is the new LOP Bill:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [GLUE32] C:\PROGRA~1\ACTIVE~1\Dentlogovc.exe

I don't know about that other one.

lostsoul21

Fix this one too:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [GLUE32] C:\PROGRA~1\ACTIVE~1\Dentlogovc.exe

After fixing it boot to safe mode and delete:

The C:\WINDOWS\MWDOJTBL.exe
The C:\WINDOWS\system32\syshost.exe file
The C:\Program Files\ACTIVE~1 folder

I have no way of knowing the full name of this folder, but the first six letters will be ACTIVE. Delete that whole folder.

Some of these may be hidden so click on My Computer. Go to Tools > Folder Options. Click on the View tab and make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked. Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and "Hide extensions for known file types" . Now click "Apply to all folders"
Click "Apply" then "OK"

How to start your computer in safe mode.

Also this one has got to be up to no good:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [internat] c:\program files\windows\network\services\internat.exe

What on earth is a Windows folder doing in Program files? Unless you know why this is there I'd say you have another problem

Please do this:

Go here

Scroll to the bottom of the page and look for the Submit file section.

Click on Browse

Navigate to the c:\program files\windows\network\services folder and upload the .... internat.exe .... file and let us know what you find.

Anytime you see that search.exe hijack look for those those off the wall sounding folders and files in the RUN entry and in the BHO's. A lot of times the folder and file will have the short name like this one, but other times they will have the long name too.

I found the active folder and deleted that in safe mode. There wasnt a MWDOJTBL.exe. or an internat.exe. Where the internat.exe was supposed to be there are lots of exe files.. should i just delete the whole folder? This file is just for the webcam.. O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [BigDogPath] C:\WINDOWS\VM_STI.EXE Pro Cam

I ran the svshost file through the online virus checker link u gave me but it said it was clean.. should i still delete that?

Any more ideas with the search.exe? I've got a popup killer program that stops the search bar but its still there on my homepage and in the registry.

Well like I said before I can't imagine why you would have a Windows folder in C:\Program files. Unless you created that folder yourself for some insane reason it should not be there so I say delete it.

Run Hijack This again and put a check by these. Close all windows except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://searchexe.com/passthrough/in...p://about :blank

Restart to safe mode.

First in safe mode click on My Computer. Go to Tools > Folder Options. Click on the View tab and make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked. Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and "Hide extensions for known file types" . Now click "Apply to all folders"
Click "Apply" then "OK"

Now look for and delete:

The C:\Program files\Windows folder
The C:\WINDOWS\system32\syshost.exe file
The C:\WINDOWS\MWDOJTBL.exe file

How to start your computer in safe mode.
