Hello, this could save me about a hundred hours of time.
In Windows 3.1 - I have tons of files in the generic Works word processor. I need to search for a specific string of text in every word processor file in order to display them and find out which files the string appears in.
The only way I know how to do it is open one file at a time and search. Is there an automated way to search all of them? I have a feeling this is a DOS thing, and haven't done anything like that before.
But I am teachable, if someone is kind enough to supply a method. Just remember - you're dealing with a person who's only done word processing before - nothing fancier!
Thanks if you can help.

Have your tried Find > Files

In the Named field enter either *.* to look in all files or *.WKS if you just want WKS files searhed.

Then in the "containing text" field enter the text you are looking for

And, in the Look In, browse to the folder that contains these files.

Just a possibility, I really like Agent Ransack, which is an add on feature to use instead of the regular find feature. Here's the link:
http://www.mythicsoft.com/agentransack/default.aspx

What I really like about it is that it give the option to print what you find, which is vertually impossible to do with M$oft's find feature. Hope this is in some way of value.

From the site: "When searching the contents of files Agent Ransack displays the text found so you can quickly browse the results without having to separately open each file!"
