Having downloaded this onto my computer recently, due to some problems I had, I now have Spybot Search and Destroy.

Simple question really; how often should I use it to search my computer for any hidden spyware or viruses?

many people use it weekly, some once amonth. I know quite a few people who run it daily

it all depends on what sort of use the computer has.

If you are a downloader and use any sort of P2P program, then daily is essential.

if you surf safely then less frequently

Make sure to use the Immunize function, and make sure to check for updates about once a week.
