We are running a Windows NT 4.0 Server and we have backups scheduled to run every night using Seagate Backup Software. They have been working fine up until 2 nights ago. The backups are still pending when I get in the next morning. Anyway, I don't think it is the Tape drive because we just got a new one about 3 months ago. Besides that I cancel the pending job and start it manually and it works. An error message shows up in our Event Viewer in Windows NT and tell me that "The driver detected a controller error on \device\tape0" I have even tried putting a brand new tape in the drive and it still happens.

Do you have all your retention and append periods set up correctly? If the retention period is set for say 1 month and you try to rotate a tape in that was written to only a week ago the software will not overwrite it until the 1 mont retention period has expired. Look at your media sets, the ones that can be overwritten will be shown in blue all the rest are in black.
