OK, I installed an adaptec AVA-2906 SCSI card in a free PCI slot. I'm using it with my Yamaha A4000 Sampler. You're supposed to turn on the sampler first to be able to access the .WAV editor via SCSI, which is where all the problems start

When I do this, the computer tells me that it's JUST finding the SCSI card all of a sudden and keeps prompting me for drivers. Any other time when I don't turn on the sampler first, it doesn't ask me. Eventually, I get through and the program works anyway, but the point is, how do I avoid this nuisance?

Any suggestions?

I have 5 devices on an Adaptec 2940 card. Whenever a device goes AWOL or the SCSI setups seems to have gone bonkers I just remove the SCSI card in device manager and reboot. It always fixes the problem – whatever it was. The card is redetected and all the devices on it are set up again when you do that.

If you try to use a device like a scanner that was not turned on and gone through its setup before booting the computer, it will sometimes not be seen. You can just refresh the SCSI card in device manager and it will be recognized. Rebooting will do the same thing in that case but the refresh is faster.

You should not have had to install drivers for an Adaptec 2906 or reinstall them if you remove the card and reboot. A 2906 doesn’t have a BIOS to install and Windows should load the drivers when it is detected.

Thanks, I'll give it a try on "Music Making Day", which is Sunday. It's a good thing that I don't have to use this program every time I make music. Thanks again, Snipe!
