I need serious help.

Somehow in my surfing I got a spyware bug. The software someone installed on my computer takes the browser to www.scanthenet.com whenever I ask for www.yahoo.com or www.google.com. It also changes the homepage to www.scan the net.com. This is bad but it appears to be sending my info to someone. This morning I saw this:

by the way I have used adaware 6.0, Spy Sweeoer and SpyBot but the bug still has control. I do not want to wipe my C drive and re-install all my software but this seems like the only option. Please advise.

Can you uninstall the program (which it seems like it is)

Do you have an antiv virus? Go to www.grisoft.com and download the free version, which is great. Scan your computer.

When did this first start happening? Go to Start>All Programs> Accessories>System Tools>System Restore. Now restore to a point BEFORE you remember this happening. This may help.

Also, idd you update you Spyware removers? Try that, and then scan.

Hope your problem is fixed.

Seems a little drastic at this stage. My two cents ...

First, run a remote on-line scan from both of these sources, and kill anything found:

HouseCall http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
Panda http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/

Then ... go here and download HijackThis v1.97.7: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=3155

It is a zip file, so you will need to unzip it.

Run HJT and then you will need to post the contents of the logfile it creates ... simply click "Save log" in order to create it ... it will open in Notepad, and you can copy/paste it here.

Do not fix anything until after the logfile is reviewed. Most of what is found is harmless or essential to the safe workings of your computer.
