I have owned my Maxtor Sata HD for a little over a year. I have had no problems with it up until now.

Recently I uninstalled some games from my computer. Now when my computer boots up it freezes during bios. I restart the computer and it will go into windows with no problems. However my second hard drive, which is the Sata drive, is not there.

I then shut the computer down and turn it back on, now the Sata drive is there and works fine. The drive will continue working normally until I shut the computer off and leave it off for the night. I then start it up and have the same problem.

I thought it might be a loose cable but I don't have to touch anything and hard drive will start working after I shut down and start the computer up again.

Any ideas on what is happening? If you need more info please post.

Thanks

What happens when you start the computer with the one drive that works then plug-in the drive that doesn't show up? After all, SATA is supposed to be hot-swapable. Could be anything from a corrupt bios to drive error to a driver problem to really anything caused by your game that you installed. What games did you install if you don't mind my asking?

I uninstalled, I think 3 games. Once the problem started happening I formated the Sata through windows.

More info on the computer:

Asus P4C 800 E Deluxe Mother Board
Maxtor Sata 16 MB 250 GB

I have not changed the BIOS, or drivers. When the computer boots up after restart and does not dectect the Sata drive it goes in normaly and there are no problems.

Strange thing is the only time I have problems with the Sata drive is when the computer has been off for any length of time.

You have two sata controllers on that board; the intel ICH5 controller and the promise controller. Which controller do you have your drives connected to?
