i got a new 250gb smasung spinpoint hdd today as i only had 1.2gb left on my existing one. But after i've put it in and start up the computer, it does not show in my computer but it does in device manager. Is there any way to make it show up in my computer?
(I've got the existing one set as the master and all the cables and jumper pins are correct) oh and it's IDE

Hi,

Please advise how the drive is jumpered and connected.

How many other IDE devices do you have currently connected.

Remember Four is the normal maximum.

You will need to partition and then format the drive before you can use it.

How and where will depend on your Operating System.

XP

Control Panel
Admintools
Comyuter Management
Disk Management
Storage

Select the drive and then partition and formt it.

i've fiddled about with the jumper pins and it comes up as 232.88GB now, does it make any difference if it is a dynamic or basic drive?

edit: it wont show up when i go to My Computer, is there any way to fix this?

Go back into Disk Management. Right click on the left box where it says Disk 1 and select initialize. Then you can right click on the "Unallocated" area and create a partition and format the drive.
