I'm not claiming this is the best; however, I've had good experiences with this cable. I'm using it right now on my system.
Double-check the available video ports on your laptop. It may only have an HDMI 1.4b port as listed on this Dell product overview page.

Have you checked that your Vostro 3591 can handle the 5,120 x 1,440 pixel native resolution of the Samsung monitor at a suitable refresh rate?

Since the Vostro 3591 is a laptop and only has HDMI out port, you should use HDMI to HDMI.
Hi All - firstly thanks a lot for your advice - I have used a HDMI to HDMI 4K cable - its all displaying fine when I connect the Macbook Pro (late 2013) but still a stretched out display when I connect it to the Dell Vostro 3591.

I have already tried installing the Samsung G9 monitor drivers and rebooting, deleting the graphics card driver and rebooting, running all the windows updates and laptop updates.

Not sure if this is relevant but I have 2 display adapters displaying: Intel Iris Plus Graphics and NVIDIA GeForce MX230. The monitor driver install only offers me the option of the Intel Iris Plus.

Also, in the display settings, the maximum resolution is 1920x1080 - Id need 5120x1440 for the G9 monitor.

Is there another way to get my Dell 3591 to show a resolution of 5120 x 1440 on the external monitor (samsung G9 odyssey).

Thanks alot.
No. Per Dell:

Not possible. We've checked this internally. Due to the motherboard layout limitation, the resolution the model will support is 1920x1080.
