I opened up chrome today on my mac and my homepage had been changed to safesearch, ive had this problem before after downloading something sketchy, and was confident in my ability to remove it. I scanned my computer with malwarebytes and followed the instructions after a quick google search. I went to my settings and everything seemed to be in place, my homepage and new tab settings were set to google, no extensions had been added, nothing had been changed. When malwarebytes finished it had detected something about an update but nothing that looked significant, so i deleted it and rebooted my computer. When i restarted it, safesearch was still my homepage.
Ive reset chrome, ive changed all the settings in safari, i cant find any weird programs or files in finder, it just doest seem to be there. I havent downloaded anything to my computer in weeks and havent been to any suspicious sites either. I had also seen somewhere about checking the profiles on my computer and everything seems to be in place. Several hours later, i cant find any help on this subject and im worried about the health of my computer. Plus safesearch is really annoying, Id really appreciate the help.
