Hello All,
Thank you for all your help so far. Here is another one. When running "scandisk" on a few different computers, I receive an error...something about scandisk has had to restart 10 times because some programs are still running. My attempts so far include turning off the "task scheduler", turning of the screen saver. I'm guessing there are some system programs running or somthing that I haven't turned off. Any idea as to what is happening. Also is there a way to see what is currently running on a regular basis?
Thanks AGAIN!!!

In addition to what you have done, you can also ctrl-alt-del and end-task everything but Explorer and systray. You can also run scandisk from safe mode or even from DOS (you must boot to a command prompt for this).

The best way to get a quick look at everything running is to install a task viewer. The most comprehensive is Taskinfo2000, well worth its honor system 12$ registration.

Less comprehensive, but very quick to dispay, is ProcessViewer....

You can also go to start and run msinfo32, click on the Startup Environment option and "running tasks". DocWatson (see your Help Menu) is another way.

Assuming you are running Win98, you can try...start, run then type msconfig, and hit enter. Choose startup tab...this you will show everything that runs at startup.
