Try VLC Media Player www.videolan.org and see if that works. I've had the same problem with divx files on one system which was creaking a little anyway so I installed fresh and everything was working until I let Windows Media Player check for a codec online. It started playing upside down and reversed immeadiately again so I just use VLC all the time there now.
