Hi,
Just need some help setting up 2 routers to work. I have one Linksys BEFSR41 V3 router (wired) and one DLink DI-624M router (wireless). The Linksys router is connected to the cable modem and the DLink is connected to the Linksys router. Is it possible to make them work together either though they are different brands and distribute the IP address differently. Like the Linksys sends out 192.168.1.1 etc whereas the DLink sends out 192.168.0.1. I can't seem to make them work together without turning off the Dynamic IP address on the DLink Router. Is this the only way to make the work together or is there another way?
Thanks for any help.

You will need to disable the DHCP server for one router, or you'll have chaos on your network. Here's my "standard" way of connecting multiple routers. If this doesn't solve your problem, please tell us in more detail what you hope to accomplish.

Connecting two SOHO broadband routers together.

Configure the IP address of the secondary router to be in the same subnet as the primary router, but out of the range of the DHCP server in the primary router. For instance DHCP server addresses 192.168.0.2 through 192.168.0.100, I'd assign the secondary router 192.168.0.254 as it's IP address.

Disable the DHCP server in the secondary router.

Setup the wireless section just the way you would if it was the primary router.

Connect from the primary router's LAN port to one of the LAN ports on the secondary router. If there is no uplink port and neither of the routers have auto-sensing ports, use a cross-over cable. Leave the WAN port unconnected!

Thanks. I've disable the DHCP server on the the second router and everything works fine now, but i can't seem to get into the settings for Dlink (2nd router) anymore. When I type in 192.168.0.1, it just says page can not be found. Is this because we've disable the DHCP on the 2nd router? So we'll have to make the setting correct and final on the 2nd router?
I'm guessing that if we want to get into the settings of the 2nd router now, we'll have to reset the router settings?

Get the router on a computer of it's own. Manually assign that computer 192.168.0.2. Then change the routers IP to 192.168.1.254. As explained in Johns guide.

"Configure the IP address of the secondary router to be in the same subnet as the primary router, but out of the range of the DHCP server in the primary router. For instance DHCP server addresses 192.168.0.2 through 192.168.0.100, I'd assign the secondary router 192.168.0.254 as it's IP address."

The only variable in local IP addresses if the last octet. 192.168.0.x, or 192.168.1.x. Depends on your setup. mine for instance is .1.x just because that's the way my DHCP server hands them out.

254 even.

I wondered why my router wasn't .255!

Sorry, I'll edit it now.

Thanks for all your help. I've tried to change the IP address of the 2nd router but can't as it only allows IP address of 192.168.0.xxx. It doesn't allow an IP address with 192.168.1.xxx so i've just left the network as is with the 2nd router's DHCP server disabled.
Thanks for you help again.
