my friend has a pair of XP machines connected to a DSL connection via a Linksys router. he is trying to access a website that that redirects you to a different site. it is not allowing him to view the site at all. if he plugs in the pc directly to the modem it works fine. i have found a post on another site with the exact same prob but no one has responed at all. that post is also using DSL but a different router. if anyone has a clue let me know

thanks in advance

its http://www.highplaceschurch.com but that is really irrelevant. the actual site is hosted on korrnet which is a company here in TN where non profit organizations can get their sites up. the domain is at godaddy.com . everyone he has talked to is able to get to this site except for him. he has 2 pc's and neither of them will go to it. i have tried and i was able to get to it and i also have a linksys router but i am on dialup.

Have you disabled all firewalls on the PC - including Microsoft's firewall for XP?

Also, does the godaddy.com site install any software on the PC - assuming you are using them to host your web site?

Can he get to godaddy.com or is he prevented from getting to either site?

Can he ping the godaddy.com site? Their IP address is: 64.202.167.129

Can he enter the 64.202.167.129 on the address line and get to godaddy.com?

Looks like the web site uses frames even though there seems to be only 1 frame. Since frames are somewhat out of fashion because of usability concerns, maybe this is a frame + router problem?

Anyway, can your friend's PC get to:

http://jwsinclair.us/hpcc/

This might give a hint as to whether frames are part of the problem?

ok
he can get to the site with that address which he is happy to use but i still want to figure out why. he can't get to the site with the highplaceschurch.com nor can he get to it using the domain that korrnet gave the church which is http://www.korrnet.org/hpcc-or/

i'm not real sure why the guy that did the website has the site on 3 different domains anyway. if this is a frame issue what would cause it? he is running xp home which is what i use and i can get to them all fine. if you have any other suggestions i would appreciate it. thanks for your help so far

Well I thought it might be a frames problem but the URL: http://www.korrnet.org/hpcc-or/ doesn't use frames!

I apologize ahead of time for these "shots in the dark":

1) Have you tried the reboot method? Turn off modem, router, and PCs. Power up modem and wait a couple of minutes. Power up router and wait a couple of minutes. Power up PCs.

2) Have you upgraded the firmware on the router to the latest level?

Don't think these will help, but you never know...

cj_white,

Hey we are from the same state!! Anyway, has your buddy checked the router for any "issues" that may be causing his site switching problem. Maybe you could telnet into it and see if the settings are good.

I am sure you and your buddy will figure this one out because both of you are smart folks.

See ya man,
DF :D
