Hi,

I have heard that an ultra high speed ADSL RJ11 cable will help increase the broadband speed connection. Is this true? and will this work?

I have BT broadband 8mb and only recieving around 3mb and can only download 500kb FTP and around 50kb P2P. I should recieve more speed than this shouldnt i?

Will the make and model of router i have help with increase of speed too?

i am not too far from the exchange either.

please help

Interior wiring will certainly affect the performance of a DSL/ADSL connection. Here's my RX for interior wiring for DSL, it involves more than simply changing a single cable.

Purchase a DSL splitter and install it at the telco service entrance. Run a direct line from the DSL port on the splitter directly to the DSL modem. Connect all of the other phone instruments to the telephone output of the DSL splitter. All of the DSL analog side wiring should be CAT3 or better twisted pair from the telco service entrance to the DSL/ADSL modem. You can use one of the twisted pairs in CAT5 cable if you have that on hand.

This is as good as it gets for DSL installations, and will usually solve in-house wiring issues.ing issues.

Is it possible that instead of 500 Kb you're getting 500KB which is the equivalent of 4 Mb? Note the case in the "b"s

Yep, that is correct. Bytes are 8 bits...

If you're receiving 500KB/s it's around 4 megabit.
If you're receiving 500Kb/s it's around 500kb/s.

Where are you getting your numbers? Speed test at your isp or just general downloading?

I have a 10 megabit line coming into my apartment which should cap me at 1.25 megs a second download, but it doesn't. Go figure, i've seen speeds over 3 megsBYTES a second coming down depending on the server i'm transferring from. In my situation, my isp has upgraded the cable in the apartment building to RG6 right to their panel but they still have their amps on max til they get the rest of the area upgraded... Gotta love it

You should be able to max out at 1 megabyte download, but again, theres alot of factors. If you're downloading from a slower server, you network card can bottleneck you, bad cabling, sometimes time of day, speed of your computer etc.
