Direction to a site(s) where I can submit this problem should I
not receive information here would be appreciated. The site may be pay or free.

Thanks - Jim in northwest suburban Chicago

THE PROBLEM:

My big concern is finding a way to successfully retrieve my data from
Outlook Express. My searches of the Microsoft Knowledge Base have
proved unsuccessful, so I decided to at least try to find someone (this site - in this case) who might have some insight.
===================================================
My system:
500 MHz Celeron with 384 MB RAM
Plextor CD-RW Drive
3.5 Inch Floppy Disk
USB Ethernet Adapter
Seagate and or WD HDD (The Problem!)
Win98 SE with all current patches
Internet Explorer 6.0
Microsoft Outlook Express
@Home Cable Internet Service
--------------------------------------------------
The problem:
1) Drive C was a Seagate (SEAGATE) 4.7 GB hard disk drive. All software I used was on this drive.

2) Wanted to install a larger Western Digital (WD) 30 GB hard disk drive.

3) Used WD supplied disk copy software to move data from SEAGATE to WD.

4) Removed SEAGATE HDD after the above procedure was undertaken replacing it with the WD HDD as MASTER.

5) Some time after installing the WD HDD, problems arose. Eventually, unable to even boot off the WD HDD.

6) Reinstalled the SEAGATE, making it the MASTER HDD. I was able to move some of the "newly installed" applications, etc which I had placed on my system with the WD HDD as SLAVE.

When I re-installed the WD unit as Drive D (SLAVE). Some, but NOT all of the things I wanted to transfer back to the SEAGATE drive were moved successfully - others NOT.

Multiple error messages appeared while attempting the above.

7) My big PROBLEM:

I've never figured out the how and why of Microsoft's Outlook Express. I know that the data files do NOT exist in the folder c:/Program Files/OutlookExpress, so I can't just transfer them from the WD HDD to the SEAGATE.

How would I go about, if it's possible, to find and move the data files back to the SEAGATE HDD?

At this point in time, if I could, I'd launch Outlook Express using the WD HDD Outlook Express based files, and print out the messages I need to save; obviously, a last ditch way of capturing my important e-mails, but I don't have a clue how to do either alternative, i.e. find the data files on the WD, so I can move them, OR, launch Outlook Express with the WD files, printing the important e-mails so I have paper copy.

I have purchases, confirmations, registration information which I need to retrieve - so hopefully you can see my problem here.

C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook Express should be where your mail files are stored. And if you have them on the slave it should be D:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook Express at least it should be. Another way to retrieve them is at http://chattanooga.net/~scochran/oe5faq.htm if you look near the bottom of the page you will see DBXtract I have OE6 and this small program worked for me. Hope I have been some help. Let me know if it solved your problem.
