Restore hard drive OS 7 Pro or extract data from drive

Hello, I have a home built computer that has been running none stop since May of 2006. However, a week ago the Windows 7 Pro which is the OS on this PC hard drive would not boot past the logo. I got a BSOD with this message file mvs99xxx.sys could not be found.

Now I am not familiar with this particular file or what it has to do with the OS boot system however I was not able to get past that point. I tried to use the OS disc to repair the system but to no avail. I tried to use the rescue disc I made when I installed the OS originally but that didn't work.

I got a Linux thumb drive with a live boot version of Mint Linux and the computer booted from the thumb drive but was unable to extract the data from the drive that I needed to send the drive back to Seagate. I have taken the drive out of the computer and installed it into an external drive enclosure for the time being.

I am thinking this if I can repair the boot system because the hard drive still spins up which tells me it is alive and gets power then my problem will be resolved. However, I don't know how to do that. The other side of that thought is if I can extract the data from the drive without repairing the boot system.

What would you do and how can I do that because I am desperate to get the data from that drive because of a client that is waiting on me to finish my work on his website.

I have learned my lesson in that I need to store all data and site material on a storage drive freeing up my OS hard drive so that if anything happens to the main drive I won't have this problem ever again. My storage drives don't get that much use so I can keep everything on the storage drives and only keep the programs I use on the main OS drive.

So what can you tell me and how can I approach this hard drive issue so I can make my client happy?

Here is the system I built information:

In 2006 I bought all of the components necessary to build a powerhouse full tower ATX case from NZXT. My MB was and still is a gigabyte 990FXA rev. 1 with 32 gigs of ram, AMD FirePro V4800 Workstation Video Card, ASUS STRIX RAID PRO Sound Card, and a 9350FX chip with 8 cores. To this day the only part that has broken is a hard drive and a problem with a circuit on the Gigabyte MB for which they took it back and refurbished it and sent it back to me no change. To this day it is still running.

I don't know if Mint will automatically mount hard drives if booted from LiveCD media, but I know Ubutntu will. And it will also automatically mount USB memory sticks. So you can boot Ubuntu Live and access the dead hard drive to copy off data from the hard drive to a USB memory stick.

I tried with Linux Mint however did not get access to the drive data. I did order Ubuntu Live on a thumb drive but haven't tried that yet. Just got it I will give that a go my hope is that the data which was held in the download folder is accessible. Thanks, I will give that a go.
