Thinkpad 770X - WIN98SE - Pentium II 300 - 288 MB RAM - 7.62 GB IDE Hard Drive - Has a resource conflict with INTEL 82371AB/EB PCI Bus Master IDE Controller - tried fixing it with Wizard provided by Windows but it wouldn't work. Tried reformatting hard drive and reinstalling Win98 but didn't correct. Tried removing IDE Controller, didn't work. Tried removing IDE Controller and Standard Bus Mastering IDE Hard Disk Contoller which device it seems to be conflicting with, hoping Windows would reinstall correctly. When I tried to turn it on tonight I got a black screen which said ERROR 00161 00163.

Can anyone help me?

Here is a listing of available drivers for your puter. Try installing these.

It does seem to me that your IDE controller (either motherboard or hard drive) may be on it's way out, but see what type of hard drive is installed and go the manufacture's web site and download the diaognostics tool for that drive.

The tool will be able to tell ya if the hard drive is bad or not.

You may want to try to locate another mother board if the IDE controler is bad on it. (High prices)

Jus a thought.

But it is a rather timed out lap top, so you might consider other alternitives.

Good luck.
