[Resolved] xp start up

1059 Views 2 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  andyoaks
New pc, installed xp and all is well.
At start up though it gives the option to have either 'home xp' or another 'windows' version. It then counts down from 30 seconds before carrying on.
How do i get rid of this option?
thanks andy

You need to remove the option you don't from the BOOT.INI file.

For example, you would delete the second option below:

[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(1)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINNT="Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect

Here's a link how to edit the BOOT.INI: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=289022
thanks, can get there by..

control panel/system/advanced/startup and recovery/settings
