I'm running XP on my new machine, and was able to set-up single click for the mouse inside the programs, but I'd like to be able to single click on my desktop icons like I could in win98. Is this possible?

In 2k it's under control panel, folder options, may be the same in xp.

That is where the mouse control panel is in XP too, but there are no options to single click. You can change pointer styles and dbl click speeds, and all the other stuff but I can't find where I can set up single click for my desktop icons...

Not the mouse panel, but the folder options panel, does xp have this option in control panel

Look in Folder options, not Mouse options. It's there in the General tab.
