I'm running Windows 98 and every time I attempt to run Scandisk, the following message come up.
"Scandisk has restarted 10 times because Windows or another program has been writing to this drive. Quitting some running programs may enable Scandisk to finish sooner. Do you want to continue receiving this warning?".
When I click the "no" button, the Scandisk program seems to run, but it never seems to complete. It runs for hours. I don't know what "other programs" they refer to when they say to quit some running programs. Any help will be appreciated.

I followed the directions and THOUGHT I had it, but about 1/33 of the way through, the same message came up, so I just canceled the program and I'm right back where I started. Still confused. Thanks.

If you did control alt delete and ended task on everything except systray and explorer and it didn't work try the booting into safe mode method next. Or did you already try that.

 Reboot your computer in "Safe Mode" and runscandisk from there. Safe Mode will prevent unneeded applications from running in the background. Let me know the results.
