My question :

I'm replacing my old burner with a newer model and I want to know if I have to uninstall the old burner from Windows XP BEFORE I physically remove it from the pc? Because if I put in the new burner before uninstalling the old one won't Windows recognize and install the new one on startup creating a conflict?

Or doesn't any of this matter????

Thanks,

I agree with Bryan. Delete driver, shut down, install drive and reboot. Xp should pick it right up. I have not had a problem doing it that way.

FWIW, Windows auto recognizes disks, all you really have to do is turn it off, rip the old one out, and put the new one in, reboot. I've done this tons of time with W2K and XP.
