MFDnNC,
I upgraded SpywareBlocker (i.e. Webroot's SpySweeper variant by EarthLink) to Spyware definitions 439 from 435.
Ran the following experiment:
1) Selected Task Panel icon in System Tray -> Work Offline which brings up the Task Panel tool bar without connecting to the EarthLink server.
2) Pulled down SpywareBlocker -> Start Scan
3) Found 3 spyware (360i, Ask, Did-it) Cookies - deleted the Cookies.
4) Signed out from Task Panel.
Repeated 1), 2), 3) and 4) above immediately after 1st scan.
My suspicion is that EarthLink's Task Panel software embeds the above spyware Cookies or stores them in the registry - my eyes are not quick enough to catch the location of where SpywareBlocker detects the Cookies.
Can anyone verify my suspicion?
Has anyone else noticed this behavior or know anything at all about these Cookies (all are tagged as tracking Cookies by SpywareBlocker).
An ISP like EarthLink should not be inserting spyware into their software without the consent of their customers. They should be above board with regard to tracking their customers and at least tell us about the Cookies!
I sent an email to EarthLink requesting a spyware free Task Panel - have yet to hear from them.
