My daughter has bought a secondhand PC.

However the password is still in the computer and she is unable to use it.

How do I remove the password and re-install Windows?

Thanks.

If it is a BIOS password you need to reset the BIOS with the jumper on the motherboard - usually near the cmos battery (or take the CMOS battery out for 30min).

If you are planing on reinstalling windows you dont even need to worry about the password because formating and reinstalling windows will delet any passwords in windows... all you need to do is put the xp cd in the drive and format through the cd setup

You did not state which version of windows you are installing. If it is a bios password, remove the battery or use the jumper. Which ever is easiest and available. Be sure to unplug the computer first.

If it is a windows password, you can use a bootdisk to boot and then format the drive. you will need to go into the bios when starting and make sure it is set to boot from floppy first.

If you need a boot disk, go to the link below and donload the one you need. After you download it, put a floppy in and open the file and it will make a bootdisk for you.
