You do not have to remove (uninstall) anysoftware. because format C: will format the hard drive therefor no installed programs will be leftover. Make sure you have the windows CD.

Have you already reformated? If not, then there are a few things you can do to speed it up. For instance, run spybot and adaware, get regseeker and run it, check your resources and your startup menu to see how many programs are running and using resources.

you can download spybot and adaware, and probably regseeker from www.pcworld.com.

In addition to the spyware removal (just cleaned up 7 computers in the past two days the owners were ready to throw out and decided to keep):

1. Run MSCONFIG and remove anything from starting automatically you do not need.

2. Clean out the TEMP directory and all subdirectories.

3. Uninstall any software you do not need.

4. Download the critical updates from MS

Reboot
