I have looked everywhere in the registry to delete the [HP] button shown in pic below.. any clues

There's a really cool freeware registry editing tool by the name of Registrar Lite. You can download it here.

Just enter the name of that HP icon in the search window and zap everything that comes up. Backing up registry of course
