Is it a dell drive? And what was in there before and why did you want to change it?

yeah a lot more information would be very helpful. Even if you don't think it matters give every detail. On top of jack's questions; What kind of power problems? Why did you Repair reinstall? Did you get any Error messages, or beeps?

When installing a new hard drive you have to put a fresh copy of windows on it and transfer the data from your old one.

I thought I posted reply yesterday not there so here it is yes its a dell drive. I took out and put back old drive same problem someesle said mabye memory I've done that a couple of times. battery is a dell new 3 months ago in bios it was at 100% befor this happened. do you guys think it could be internal battery and where do I find? all system does is start up and shut down in 20 secs it trys to boot the cd drive I think the stops no screens ever come up to green lights and then my green light for top keys no other lights come up. It all started with a registry -error same as posted yesterday. so I thought it would be better to start fresh and reteve data later. Like it was a new computer its worked 4 years now no problem I like dell and would buy more yes I've had problems but I think all xp crashes. repaired about a year ago.you guys helped me though that one on both pc and lap top.ox00000051 (ox00000001,oxE15D9008,ox005CE000,ox000001D6)

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down in to prevent damage to your computer.

REGISTRY_ERROR

If this is the first time you have seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps

1. Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any windows updates you might need.

2. If problems continue disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software.

3. Disable BIOS memory options, select as caching or shawdowing. If you need to use safemode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press f8 to selec to advantce startup options, and then select safe mode.

Dells are very fussy with ram iknstall so if you pulled out and put back, you really need to see to it they are back in correctly.
Of course he has to install XP clean on new drive but the drive needs to be recognized and apparently setup isn't doing that. I assume you moved the caddy from the old drive to the new, but did you match it up perfectly and plug it in perfectly?
I am a little puzzled as error message you are reporting shows registry errors and if you did XP repair, that should have fixed that. Ddid you do exactly this with old drive in:

Sounds like new drive is NG also if it was properly installed although Dells can be tricky where you need to check the bios to see it is searching for new hard drive. You can reset to optimumn defaults should do that in bios for you.

It is definitely not your CMOS Battery. If your Bios settings are still the same then your CMOS battery is working fine. If all you did was put in the new hard drive then take it back out and put the old one right back in then it should still work. There has to be some small minor error that you did that you could easily be overlooking.

RichM asked you if you did the Windows repair install that was descrideb in a website he posted. Is that what you did? Or did you load something different? I don't recall seeing you reply to that question. If you did do what RichM described in that website, Which of the following options did you pick?

Format Windows on the following Partition (Quick)
Format Windows on the following Partition

I am asking this becuase it sounds like there is a bad sector on your hard drive that can't be read. If you pick the 2nd option, which takes longer, your computer will perform disk check. Disk Check looks for errors on your HDD and attempts to fix them.

You can also run Disk Check by booting from the Windows Installation disc and loading recovery console. If you try this, I believe the DOS command is just DISCCHECK. Type HELP to see a list of commands if I am wrong. once Disc Check is done I would then type FIXBOOT to fix any errors in your boot files that were caused by the bad sector on your HDD.

If your New Hard drive came from ebay, (at least that is what I understood) then it could very likely not work. I have seen first hand where people try buying drvies off ebay, get a good deal, and find out they were a sucker becuase it doesn't work. Even if its not from ebay I have had Western Digital send me a brand new dud. They quickly replaced it for me though.

Just another thought about your second new ebay HDD. RichM stated that it sounds like your computer wont recognize the drive. Is that the case? I don't see where you responded to that either. Were you able to install windows on the second drive? I can't see how you could have the same problem without installing XP on the drive.
