Hi, I'm not really active on this forum since there's a wealth of information elsewhere, but the really hard stuff I bring here, because y'all know so much!

Anyway, after I remove my lips from all your collective bums...

I installed Executive Software DiskKeeper and uninstalled it because it was annoying and not that effective.
Now, my XP defragmenter won't uninstall (that's the last time I use something a person at a LAN recommends to me).

Is there a way I can use an installer to reinstall this? Maybe through the Windows XP recovery console? I would also be able to do the old-school file replacement, if someone will offer me a clean source for them.

Start->Run type in -> dfrg.msc <enter>

If that doesn't work you need to find that file.

I'm pretty certain you can do it via add-remove software in the control panel One of the panels will include Windows programs, search there if it claims your defrag is installed remove the check mark (uninstall) and reboot. On reboot go to the same place and check you want to install the Defrag program, apply.

You should be able to restore it using System File Checker . . click on Start . . Run . . type cmd then sfc /scannow

The space after sfc and before / is important

It will take a bit and may ask for the XP CD.
