I was wondering how you can get the BIOs or the OS to recognize an external DVD/CD rewriter if you buy one and reinstall Windows OS. Would it work, and how would I go about in getting it to work?

If the BIOS will not recognize the drive for boot up there is only two things to do.

1. Contact the manufacturer of the computer and ask if they have a BIOS update for this machine that accepts USB cd-rom drives

2 Purchase a new computer that does.

You may be able to boot from the box of floppies for XP and install from the CD that way. I think the whole set is six floppies, I've never actually used it. :)

If I remember right, there is an option to boot by USB, so I suppose it's a viable option. Yes, I sure can boot from the floppies. It's a pain in the butt though, with the way my computer is now. :|
