The recovery CD will only work with the specific model number of IBM Aptiva that it came with. If your IBM Aptiva is of a different model number, you'll find out soon enough when you activate the recovery CD.
ok. i should have worded my questions with more specifics. what i'm trying to determine here is if there is a way to find out which model these disks will work with. i should have said sooner that i no longer have the original ibm aptiva computer system but i kept original restore cd. all i want to know is if there is some info on this disk to show which system they work with because it's been long enough that i do not know which model i had. it's been 2 to 3 years since the system has been discarded. Thanks.
i don't have a aptiva system just wanting to know if it works for any aptiva. i just didn't want to throw them out if i could use them on a different system. Thanks to all. end of transmission.............................
I know you don't have the computer that came with the disk. What I asked was if the computer you have now is identical to the one you used to have that came with the disk you want to use. There's no way to really know if the disk you have will work with any computer. You have to try it and find out. Windows 95 is really old. It may not be as system-specific as Windows XP is.
If the Aptiva you now have is not the same model number as the Aptiva the recovery CD came with, it will not work.
Each model number has what is called "tattooing", which is what the recovery CD recognizes. Different model numbers have different tattooing, which is why you cannot use the same recovery CD with different model numbers.
