A few probably read my earthlink thread, well I decided to start a new one because I think the problem doesn't entirely lay with earthlink.

For some reason, immediatly after installing direct X 9.0b, my login dialogue pops up EVERY time I turn on my computer. Even after I hit cancel, even after taking out the pwl files. Also, nothing will save in the registry! such as my cookies path, I set it to something else, and it switches it back! Another thing, my windows connection in my DUN folder, it wont save my password. It's grayed out!

It's done this before, I eventually gave up and formated my computer. Now that I've formated, after using my computer for awhile it's doing it again, and I think it has something to do with installing direct x.

Also, everytime I start my computer, before starting windows it gives the message "The new volume mapping has been completed"

Anybody know what's plaguing my computer?

1. If user profiles are setup, if not disregard this step: In the Users Control Panel (Start;Settings; Control Panel; Users) delete all users.
2. In the Passwords control panel click the User Profiles tab and verify that the 'All users of this PC use the same preferences and desktop settings' option is selected, and then click OK.
3. Click on Start; Find (or Search); Files or Folders.
4. In 'Search for files or folders named' (or Named) box: type in '*.pwl', without the quotation marks.
5. In the 'Look In' box use the drop-down arrow to ensure [C:] is selected.
6. Place a check mark by Include subfolders.
7. Click on "Find (or Search) Now'.
8. Right-click delete all the PWL files found.
9. Close the Find/Search utility and restart the computer via the Start button.
10. When you see the Windows Logon Prompt again, type in a name (preferably Ima Nonymous) but do not type in a password and click on 'OK'
11. Go to control panel; Double-click the Network icon and select windows logon' Click Ok and restart your computer.

If after doing the above and restarting your computer twice (x2) you still see the Logon Prompt, a quick setting change in the Network Control Panel (within Control Panel) to the Primary Network Login 'Windows Logon' will correct the problem.

Tell me how it went, this is resolvable. If the Primary Network Login 'Windows Logon' is all that is available adding a Client like Microsoft Family Logon and changing the Primary Network Logon to that client and a restart should resolve the issue.

It did not fix the problem.

I did a search and deleted all pwl files found on my local hard disks. Then I did each step as you said, but the login message still pops up everytime I start windows.

I attempted to do what you said three times, to no avail.
