hi, i would just first like to thank you for reading and helping me out

i recently bought an acer laptop with windows media center installed by the company along with many other programs id like to get rid of. i have a copy of windows xp professional (32bit?).

i first go into bios and change it to boot from cd first. i save and exit, my laptop reboots, after the bios screen, the screen goes black with one of those mini white lines you see in cmd.exe when your typing, on the top left corner for around 10 seconds. it then proceeds to the windows xp loading screen.

it totally skips the boot from cd (windows cd). the model of my laptop is AMD turion 64x2 mobile technology TL-52. im not sure if 64x2 means that my laptop is 64bit, and my windows xp professional cd is only 32bit?

do i need to get a copy of a 64bit windows xp professional?
or am i doing something wrong in the bios?
is there an alternative way to reformating everything?

i hope you can help me out
thanks for reading!

From what you wrote, I don't see you are making any mistakes. Check the CD for scratches or smudges. Try another bootable CD in the drive just to see if it will boot at all.

If the CD you are attempting to boot from is a CD-R, it is possible the drive and the particular type of CD are incompatible.

No. Also, 64-bit Windows is backward compatible with 32-bit applications. There are so few 64-bit applications available at present, if it weren't, there would be no point in having it. Frankly, I don't see the point in having it at present, anyway.

Did you try another boot CD in the drive?

Somewhere in your BIOS setup, there will be a selection to Clear System Configuration or reset configuration data or something like that. The choices are usually enable/disable. This varies from board to board and some don't have this selection at all. Enable/clear it or whatever and restart.
