Red light on motherboard

342 Views 10 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  crjdriver
I mounted it, connected everything correctly, and it turns on, but it doesn't give video, all the components, but a red LED is on on the motherboard indicating that the dram is defective or poorly connected, but I've already tried to put it again, cleaned it, changed the slot , but nothing worked. I tested with other cables but there was no video.

Motherboard: B450 aorus m
Video card: rtx 3060.
Processor: ryzen 5 5600G.
RAM: (1x8)DDR4 3200 TEAM GROUP.

That motherboard needs bios F61 or later to run that processor. No way that board shipped with that late a bios. Did you have the bios flashed for you prior to installing the processor?
I checked the support page for your board. While many gigabyte boards support qflash plus so you can update a bios without even having a processor installed, your board does not support qflash plus.
BTW you do not need a poll. Unless you had the bios flashed prior to installing your processor OR you used an older processor to flash the bios, you have your answer.

Would that solve the problem with dram?

If you check the memory support tabs here you will note that there is nothing specific to the Cezanne CPU that you have but perhaps more importantly only the earlier CPUs support one stick of RAM at a time populating the MB.
You are not understanding. You are focused on ram when the processor is almost assuredly not supported with the current bios. What you are missing here is the memory controller is part of the processor.
Most likely that motherboard ended production in 2019; then production shifted to the 5xx chipsets.
If this board was used, there is a chance the bios was updated. If the board was new, then it will not have that late of a bios.
AMD had a loaner program where they would ship you an old processor to use to flash your board. I am not sure if AMD is still doing this however it does not hurt to check. Note this link was for the 3xxx series of processors however the same issues exist for the 5xxx processors.

I understand, A computer technician charges a lot to do this update?

It is really not possible to answer you. Labor rates vary greatly by location. Get an estimate as to how much a shop will charge. By shop, I mean just that; a real shop that does builds, installs networks, etc NOT a chain store.
For future reference, the very first thing you do when you decide to do a build is check parts compatibility. Every motherboard mfg has a list of what cpus are supported and what bios is necessary for said support. In addition, there are lists for tested ram, tested M.2 drives, etc. If you want to be sure a build works, you use parts from these lists.
Note just because a brand of ram does not appear on the list does not mean it will not work. What it means is the ram was never tested and found to work.
One last thing. At just about any shop, a bios update is done at the customers risk and NOT the shop's risk. What this means is that IF the update gets corrupted, it is your problem and not the shop's problem.
