How did it get on the computer in the first place? If it came with the machine, you can probably reinstall it using the applications cd that came with the computer. If the file is ready to be burned as-is with no conversions needed, just install ISO Recorder (if it is an iso file) and right-click the file to burn it using XP's burner. If it is not an iso, drag the files to the DVD window and choose "Burn these file..." from the File menu.

In any case, if you can't find the application, you need to use some other method or reinstall it.

I bought a new Dell several years ago (not knowing everything I was buying), and a year or so later, I tried to burn to CD some files. The software was there - pre-installed - but not the hardware. D'oh!

Are you sure you've got a DVD burner, and not just the software?

In your specs ... Did you mean you have a HP 230n ???
IF so ... I might be listed in program files .. under Sonic or Veritas.
If missing .. you should be able to recover this application from the recovery partition ...
see HP tools.
