receiving emails that are opening windows media player

I am using outlook express. I am receiving tons of emails from people unknown to me that automatically opens my windows media player. Some of them have a paper clip implying that there should be an attachment but when I click on it to try to open it there is no attachment there. For example I get an email from "Postmaster" with the Subject: Returned Mail: User unknown. Message reads
Hi.
I'm afraid the message returned below could not be delivered to one or more destinations.
Undelivered message to [email protected]
I have received around 50 emails similar to this in the past few weeks.

Can anyone tell me how I can stop these emails?
Thanks

If you have opened some of these e-mails from people unknown to you, you may have picked up a virus. I'd suggest you do a virus scan with your antivirus program after updating it's definitions. If you do not have an AV program, you can do an online scan at TrendMicro.

I don't know of a way to stop the mailins, but suggest you delete ones that are unknown. And, I'd scan the ones that appear to be from trusted friends.
There is no attachment to open and I did do a virus scan and it came up clean.
Outlook Express has a security feature that stops you from opening some attachments (i.e. - files that have *.exe, *.bat, and *.com extensions) that could possibly infect your PC. You will see the paper clip but not the attachement.

You can disable that feature through - Tools-->Options-->Security tab. Uncheck the "Do not allow attachments...." box.

Just be aware that if you do turn this feature off you could be opening yourself up to virus infected attachments. Also you should not be opening e-mail from people you do not know. My rule of thumb is if I don't know them they get deleted.

Protecting yourself is #1.
