i was just curious about this, because it seemed kind of off. i've been using 52x memorex cds on my 52x lite on burner (got it a few days ago) with nero burning ROM 5.5.10.93. for the standard length audio cd it takes 6-7 minutes to burn though. shouldnt it take around 2-3 minutes? smart-burn, smart-x, and buffer underrun features came with this burner. do i have to mess around with the settings to get this thing to burn faster? or maybe its the disc brand i'm using? not a clue, but some help would be appreciated, thanks.

Normally, if the software is set to burn as fast as possible, the CD writer tests the disk and adjusts the speed to suit.
If you are not getting full speed then the burner probably believes the disk cant accept the high speed reliably.

As an aside, I would never recommend burning audio disks above x12 anyway, as I find reliability of reading often suffers. For use in the car CD players, I go even lower in speed.

6-7 mins is fine and sounds about right comparing it to mine at 48X speed. It's also worth remembering that max burning speeds are reached only when you're well into the burn process, the process doesn't start flat out but gradually increases in speed towards the end up to your 52X speed.

that makes sense. and since nero burns straight from mp3 to the cd, i was also taking into consideration that its probably taking longer because its not a .wav. thanks guys.

It has been a while since I have used Nero 5.5, however I believe the program has a setting for checking the burned cd. This would account for the extra time. My LiteOn is a 52X burner [not the same model number] and it burns an audio disk in about 2-3 min mp3 to cd.

Check to see what speed is selected for burning the disk. It should be 48-52 with 52X disks.

i actually looked up my problem on some more sites and found that my problem is common. what i forgot to mention (didnt think it was too important) is that the used-read buffer drops in the middle of the burn (it doesn't drop far down enough for the burn to mess up, all of my burns have been successful with this cdrw drive)this only happens on audio burns, data burns burn at the speed they're supposed to and usedread buffer does not drop. you can read more about it on this first post on this other message board. http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread/t-89008.html
same exact problem (except that i dont have a dvdburner like that guy). also , i heard it might have to do with PCI latency, or IDE chipset drivers, whatever those are, i heard its in the bios. now that your more informed about the problem, i'm sure someone can help me.
i run windows ME (yeah i know) version 4.90. got a amd-k6-2 processor and 192mbs of sdram. yep, my computers old, trying to make it last another six months.
