This ain't a forbidden topic here, I'm guessin'...

Has anybody here had any luck doing this? I've tried re-filling my Lexmark black (that's all I print), and it's worked, although I cannot print on the hi-speed, low quality setting. The quality isn't good at all, as it is with a new cartidge on the same setting.

Also, does the pc 'read' any identifier from the cartridge? I see some 'communication' references in the printer properties settings...

An old high school friend has a company that does that here in Canada. I buy new cartridges to avoid the problems you are having.

Yes I have tried refilling, Ink does not seem to be a high quality. Perhaps they have different brands with better ink. My Lexmark when you change the cartridges (or refill) you need to it auto detects that the cartridge was removed and put back in, then you have to press a few button, on the screen it says print from cartridge before? blah blah blah. My old one was software controlled on resetting the ink level value.
Oh ya I just bought new cartridges 2 days ago, $58 total. wow that's getting out of hand nowadays. can almost buy a new printer for that.

"Original" ink cartridges have ink with the specific thermal viscosity to match the print head, and the correct pressure (vacuum) in the cartridge.

Refill ink is generic and lacks the former, the refill process cannot get the latter so quality issues abound.

If the use if just for school or playing about it probably does not matter a lot, but if useable quality is needed, that is rare on refills.

Even commercial refills are nowhere near as good in my experience. I gave up on them, but weakened last year and tried another, threw it out. Even on "best" it was only suited to draft.

Some Epson ones have a built-in chip that makes it difficult, but if cost per page is the concern and black is the main use, get a low-end laser.

The "communication" is where the printer talks to the PC and vice versa, not direct conversations with the cartridge.
