Whenever I have internet explorer on, google, which is set as the default home page keeps getting replaced by some other search engine such as hot-search.

I'm using a new dell pc since that emachine burned out.

I have a similar problem, my homepage gets replaced by searchmyrequest.com and i get a stack of new shortcuts in my favourites. Its driving me nuts. Ive tried the latest versions of adaware, csw , avg shredder and spybot s&d but to no avail.
Perhaps one of these programes may work for you but so far they have done jack **** for me!

Also I think this might be the wrong forum for this kind of post but hey im new and also kind of rebellious!!

Are using any tools to detect and clean up any adware/spyware?
Two good free ones are AdAware and Spybot Search & Destroy

If you download either (or both) of these, make sure that you "search for updates" before you run them. These programs are capable of removing lots of unwanted malware that can end up on your computer. Chances are they can fix your problem.

Pheeph and nny - if AdAware and Spybot can not correct your problem, then I suggest posting your issue in the Security forum. There, I am sure someone will walk you through your issue and help you out.

You may want to browse the Security forum a bit to see how people use a program called Hijack-This to post a log for experts to analyze.

Sorry your thread got hijacked here. I am going to move this to the Security forum.

Please do the following:

Click here to download CWShredder. UnZip the file, close all browser windows and click on the cwshredder.exe then click "Fix" (Not "Scan only") and let it do it's thing.

When it is finished Restart your computer.

To help prevent this from happening again, I strongly recommend you install the patches for the vulnerabilities that this hijacker exploits.

The simplest way to make sure you have all the security patches is to go to Windows update and install all "Critical Updates and Service Packs"

Go here and download Adaware 6 Build 181

Install the program and launch it.

First in the main window look in the bottom right corner and click on Check for updates now and download the latest referencefiles.

Make sure the following settings are made and on -------ON=GREEN

From main window :Click Start then Activate in-depth scan (recommended)

Click Use custom scanning options then click Customize and have these options selected: Under Drives and Folders put a check by Scan within archives and below that under Memory and Registry put a check by all the options there.

Now click on the Tweak button in that same window. Under Scanning engine select Unload recognized processes during scanning and under Cleaning Engine select Let windows remove files in use at next reboot

Click proceed to save your settings.

Now to scan just click the Next button.

When the scan is finished mark everything for removal and get rid of it.(Right-click the window and choose select all from the drop down menu and click Next)

Restart your computer.

Then go here and download Spybot Search & Destroy.

Install the program and launch it.

Before scanning press Online and Search for Updates .

Put a check mark at and install all updates.

Click Check for Problems and when the scan is finished let Spybot fix/remove all it finds marked in RED.

Restart your computer.

After all that please do this. Click here to download Hijack This. Un Zip it and click on the Hijackthis.exe.

Click the "Scan" button when the scan is finished the scan button will become "Save Log" click that and save the log.

Go to where you saved the log and click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" then Paste the log back here in a reply.

DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required. Someone here will be glad to advise you on what to fix.

*Note: When you download Hijack This Do Not download it or UnZip it to a temp folder or to the desktop. Create a permanent folder somewhere like in My Documents and name it Hijack This and put it in that folder.
