my computer is upstairs with a PCI wireless G linksys card in it. the router downstairs is a WRT G router linksys. i will get about 36-54mbps most of the time and the speed is great, but randomly maybe every 5-20 minutes it will disconnect for like 5 seconds and reconnect to the network, which of course causes a lot of lag in games and will make webpages not load during the reconnect. there is a computer upstairs also 1 room away which has the same setup and gets perfect signal never disconnects. what could be the problem, is my wireless card bad? its only a year old. ive tried changing the channel settings like the linksys site reccomends but it doesnt help

Here's a possibility:

Try this:

1. Click start button
2. Click "My Network Places"
3. Right-click and click on "Properties"
4. Right-click on "Local Area Connection" and click on "Properties"
5. click on the "Authentication" tab
6. Uncheck "Enable network access control using IEEE 802.1X"
7. Click "OK"

Are you using Windows XP's WZC to manage the connection?
