I accidentally destroyed the partition on my XP drive the other day and after trying a bunch of recovery tools one finally worked. I can see all the data on it but I cant boot off of it. The program claims to have fixed the boot sectors and I tried running fixboot and fixmbr on the XP recovery console but all I get at boot is a screen full of multicoloured random characters some of which are flashing. I have no idea what this means and I've never seen it before with destroyed drives in the past. I'm currently running from a different drive on the same computer so it's not a video card problem or anything like that.
My question is, is there any way I can get it to boot or will I just have to start from a fresh XP install and copy all my data from it?

After running the fixboot and fixmbr on it once again just for the sake of it and unplugging my other drives it now boots to the log on screen but the XP logo stays in the middle and the user names never show up. I do have mouse control though so it hasn't locked up. Does anybody know what this means? As far as I can tell from running a few things on it, all the data is fine.
